Leading beverage supplier, Carlsberg Britvic, has worked with Water Unite for the past five years advancing water security in underserved communities globally. In the lead up to World Water Day, Carlsberg Britvic has announced the expansion of its ongoing fundraising efforts with key retail partner, Co-op, through its Aqua Libra brand.
Aqua Libra will donate 1p per litre of canned drinks sold in Co-op stores to Water Unite. This includes infused variants as well as still and sparkling water.
Carlsberg Britvic has already been partnering with Water Unite in Co-op stores. Since partnering with Water Unite in 2020, its customers have supported Water Unite by making a 1p per litre donation towards Water Unite's initiatives. Their collective efforts have raised over £660,000 to date.
By partnering with Water Unite, Carlsberg Britvic is supporting clean water projects in underserved communities. For example, Jibu, one of the social businesses in Water Unite’s portfolio, operates a decentralised water franchise network delivering clean drinking water across East Africa. In 2024, with the backing of corporate partners like Carlsberg Britvic, they were able to distribute over 170 million litres of safe drinking water to over 631,000 people in the region.
Russell Goldman, Managing Director of Breakthrough Brands at Carlsberg Britvic, said: “This partnership with Water Unite brings us closer to a future where safe, clean water is accessible to all. Together, we’re supporting innovative, sustainable solutions that empower communities and tackle global water challenges. It’s a meaningful step in our mission of transforming hydration for a better today and a brighter tomorrow.”
Rowen West-Henzell, Environment & Sustainability Manager at Co-op said: “Co-op has a longstanding commitment to water security at home and overseas. We've partnered with Water Unite since 2017, providing funding via a micro levy on branded water and selected soft drinks to help tackle water poverty and plastic pollution in the Global South. We're pleased to welcome Aqua Libra as the latest brand to support Water Unite with every sale of their drinks in Co-op stores. Together we can reach and support even more people and communities.”
Louis Goring-Morris, Partnerships Director at Water Unite, said: “We’re proud of our partnership and progress with Carlsberg Britvic and excited to welcome Aqua Libra in Co-op stores. Together, we can make an even greater impact on the world’s most pressing water challenges.”
Aqua Libra is dedicated to making an impact by advancing responsible initiatives, supporting underserved communities, and driving positive change. Through their continued partnership with Water Unite, now in Co-op stores, Aqua Libra remains committed to transforming hydration for a better today and a brighter tomorrow.
